Defender Runners Win National Title

The Dordt Men's Cross Country team is the 2022 NAIA National Champion. With five runners in the top 45, the Defenders totaled 97 points to outdistance Milligan by 18 points and win the program's first ever national title in Tallahassee, Florida this morning. Joe Anderson paced Dordt with a 13th place time of 24:28.5. Also counting for Dordt were Davis Tebben in 17th, Peter Shippy 18th, Eric Steiger 23rd and Ethan Summerhays 45th. Joseph Kunert ran in the meet for Northwestern and he placed 125th out of 318 in a time of 25:43.9. The individual national champion is Abraham Chelangam of Oklahoma City who ran a 23:41.9.

In the women's race, Dordt scored 315 points to come in 8th out of 36 teams. Taylor won the national title with 50 points while Milligan was also the women's runner-up with 177. Jessica Kampman turned in a top ten performance for Dordt, finishing the course in 17:34.7 which was good for 9th. The other counting scores for the Defenders were Kristine Honomichl in 61st, Molly Mulder 70th, Lucy Borkowski in 102nd and Anika Homan in 153rd. Northwestern had three runners competing and were led by Emily Haverdink who came in 51st out of 326 in a time of 18:22.6. The women's individual national champion is Lina May of William Carey. Her time was 16:50.9.
