SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the second-straight week, the No. 8-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (9-1, 1-0 GPAC) has landed a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Player of the Week. Sophomore Alysen Dexter was tabbed the GPAC Attacker of the Week, after helping the Red Raiders to a perfect 5-0 week.

This past week, the Raiders picked up five wins including a top-10 win over No. 6-ranked Park (Mo.), two teams receiving votes, and opened conference play with a straight-sets win over Morningside. The week saw three of the matches won in straight sets, while no match went to more than four sets.

On the week, she notched 74 kills, while hitting a mark of .286, while averaging 4.35 kills per set. She more than doubled her service ace total (12) then she had to begin the week (10), as opponents had a hard time picking up her serves. In the four-set match with (RV) Rocky Mountain (Mont.), she notched a season-high 22 kills, just four kills short of her career-high.

The 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Freshman of the Year has not missed a step in her second season in the red and white. Though among a group of talented hitters on the Northwestern squad this season, Dexter (So., Urbandale, Iowa) sits atop the team-lead in kills with 110 kills with a .225 hitting percentage. Additionally, she’s a force from behind the serving line having notched a GPAC-leading 22 service aces entering the week.

Dexter is earning her first-career GPAC weekly honor and joins Bekah Horstman (Sr., Pella, Iowa) in the list of Raiders to earn a weekly honor this season.
