Hawarden Man Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
August 29, 2022 4:24pm
A Hawarden man was sentenced to prison after earlier admitting to committing lascivious acts with a child. 63-year-old Robert Michael Schiefen was sentenced Monday in Sioux County District Court.
The case arose in May of 2022, when Schiefen was brought to the Hawarden Police Department by a family member where he admitted to touching a minor victim inappropriately. The police investigated further and confirmed Schiefen’s admission. Police and prosecutors also learned that Schiefen had previously been found guilty of Indecent Contact with a Child and Willful Injury in 1999, but he had been released from the sex offender registry.
Under a plea agreement, Schiefen pled guilty to the charge, and the Court sentenced him to serve no more than five years in prison. He is also ordered to have no contact with the minor victim. Upon his release, Schiefen is required to register on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life, and will be placed on parole for 10 years.
