Raiders picked to finish second, Defenders third, in GPAC preseason coaches poll

SIOUX CITY, Iowa –The third-ranked Northwestern College football team was selected to finish second, and number 21 Dordt was picked third in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) preseason coaches poll announced by the GPAC league office Thursday morning. The Red Raiders received 91 team points and picked up one first-place vote. The No. 21-ranked Defenders were selected to finish third after a 7-3 mark a season ago, finishing with 77 points.

This year’s poll marks the fifth-straight season the Red Raiders have been picked to finish second in the conference.

The Raiders were selected to finish just behind NAIA preseason top-ranked Morningside, who finished 2021 with a perfect 14-0 record and won the NAIA national title.

Concordia (Neb.) followed closely behind Dordt as the only other team with 70+ points in the preseason coaches’ poll with 72. The Bulldogs also finished with a 7-3 mark in 2021.
