GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Northwestern College baseball team was one of 29 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to earn the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced this morning.

“I’m continually impressed with the work our guys do academically considering our schedule and the rigor of a Northwestern education,” notes head baseball coach Brian Wede. “To be over a 3.0 GPA, as a team, is no small task and to earn the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award the last five years puts us in small company with just five other NAIA programs nationwide.”

Northwestern joins just five other NAIA programs to achieve at least five straight years: Concordia-Ann Arbor, Cornerstone (Mich.), Indiana Tech, Morningside, and Siena Heights (Mich.).

The ABCA recognized more than 420 collegiate baseball programs for the 2021-22 academic year. To be recognized, the team’s head coach must be a due paying ABCA member and the team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater (on a 4.0 scale). The award was presented by Sports Attack. Overall, Northwestern was one of five Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) programs to earn the honor this season.
