ORANGE CITY, Iowa – After completion of her first full season as head coach of the Northwestern College women’s soccer squad, head coach Shannon Andringa has announced the 2022 Raider women’s soccer schedule.

The Raiders will open up the season with a road trip where they will take on the William Woods Owls and Stephens College in Missouri. Andringa noted on the importance of an early season trip, “This trip will be a great way for us to see where we are at and to integrate younger players into the mix.”

The Raiders will return home to host the Pizza Ranch Classic, which will feature Ottawa (Kan.) and Carroll (Mont.). Ottawa hails from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), while Carroll hails from the Frontier Conference.

Northwestern will finish their non-conference slate with two more home matches, first hosting the Bruins of Bellevue University (Neb.) and the second against York College (Neb.).

Andringa commented on the importance of the final non-conference games, “These will be critical in preparing for the start of conference play.”

The Raiders will have to be road warriors during the first section of conference play, opening up with three road games. Northwestern will begin Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play on September 17 on the road at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. They will play their second GPAC game at Morningside on September 21, and wrap up their road stint with a game at Concordia on September 24.

“We are ready for the challenges we will face within the GPAC. This past season, we had a quite a few conference games that we lost by a goal and are hoping to flip the script next year,” noted Andringa. “With the addition of 16 incoming freshman, we are excited about the added depth and talent that we are adding.”

The home conference opener will be played on September 28 against Mount Marty, with kickoff slated for 5:00 p.m. at the NWC Soccer Complex in Orange City.

The Raiders will be back on the road for contests at Jamestown and Dakota Wesleyan to open up the month of October.

A home stand will begin on October 8 with a matchup against Midland. That will be followed with fellow Sioux County foe, Dordt, coming to Orange City on October 12. Presentation (S.D.) will take on the Raiders on October 19, also at the NWC Soccer Complex.

The final two GPAC games will finish the month of October, the first at Hastings on the 22nd and the final regular season conference game on the 29th.

“Winter and spring training was a productive time for our team. We saw a lot of growth in individual players and as a team. Through futsal and small group training sessions we were able to focus on the technical side of players games and we saw great improvement,” concluded Andringa. “Through positional training and full team training we were able to continue to work toward finding cohesion in our defending and our attack. I am excited to see our efforts pay off when we take the field together in the fall.”
