The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated two separate vehicle accidents Saturday in Rock Valley.  The first occurred at 12:13 p.m at the intersection of Highway 18 and 290th Street, seven miles west of Rock Valley.  

28-year-old Dillon Altena of Fairview, SD, was travelling north on Highway 18. 24-year-old Katherine Crumrine of Sioux Center was driving south on Highway 18. Altena attempted to turn left onto 290th Street and the two struck.

A passenger in the Crumrine’s vehicle was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health Center for minor injuries.  Altena was cited for failure to yield making a left turn. 

The second crash occurred at 4:00 p.m. on Highway 18, three miles east of Rock Valley.  19-year-old Shawna De Kam of Chamberlain, SD, was driving east on Highway 18. 19-year-old Brandon Kooima of Hull was also driving east - behind De Kam. De Kam attempted to turn left onto a residential driveway and Kooima struck the Ford driven by De Kam.  No injuries were reported; Kooima was cited for following too close.
