Hv Volunteer Day

More than 25 volunteers joined 8 Heritage Board members to help the village settle into its new location at Tower Fields in western Sioux Center during a volunteer day event.

Heritage Village consists of more than a dozen buildings and many artifacts representing centuries of life in this area. The buildings range from little shops and historic homes to a one-room schoolhouse and farm buildings, and all needed work and cleaning after the trek across Sioux Center.

“We had a nice turnout and got a lot of work done – more than I thought we would,” said board member Linda Altena. “They worked in about every building.”

Volunteers of all ages dusted, swept floors, cleaned buildings, unloaded items, washed up historic items and windows, hung pictures, mulched around trees, and helped re-set displays on shelves and in the buildings.

“Thanks to everyone who came out Saturday and helped. They were all so willing to do anything we needed,” Altena said. “It was a really good day of community involvement.”

The Heritage Board is working toward hosting Harvest Festival this fall at the village, and plenty of work remains to be done at the site, including landscaping.

The site remains under construction, and the public is asked to continue to watch the work from a safe distance until Heritage Village officially re-opens to the public.
