Input from people who work, live, shop, and do business in Sioux Center will help shape a housing study to prepare for community growth.

The City of Sioux Center is working with McClure Engineering to develop a housing study and residential development strategy for Sioux Center. The study will identify development areas for new housing in Sioux Center and the types and number of housing units needed.

“Through this study, it is our ultimate goal to gather as much feedback and information as possible to help develop some housing strategies for ongoing community growth,” Wynja said. “With these strategies, we want to help reduce any barriers for developers and address some of the housing gaps.”

As part of this process, residents, commuters, and shoppers will be invited to complete a survey about their current and future housing. McClure wants to build an understanding of local housing needs from the community’s perspective.

The survey is available online at https://bit.ly/SiouxCenterHousing2022 in both English and Spanish.  Paper copies will also be available at the City Office and Sioux Center Public Library.

Surveys should be completed by Saturday, Jan. 22.

“In the survey, we will ask participants about their specific hopes for Sioux Center’s future to establish a vision statement for the plan,” McClure’s proposal states.

Along with the public survey, McClure and the City are also receiving input from a local steering committee and workforce housing survey.

Once the housing study and strategy are complete, likely in spring 2022, they will be presented to the Sioux Center City Council for their review.
