Sioux Center’s Wastewater Treatment Facility, completed in 2020, has been recognized for excellence in planning and design.

The project was awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2021 Outstanding Project Achievement, named Iowa’s 2021 Project of the Year.

The plant also received the American Council for Engineering Companies’ 2021 Honor Award for engineering excellence in Iowa.

Mayor David Krahling recently accepted these awards on behalf of the City of Sioux Center, presented at this week’s City Council meeting by Bolton & Menk engineer Kris Swanson.

“When you think about all the projects that happen across Iowa, to be recognized as the outstanding project is something special,” Swanson said. “You’ve got a lot of growth potential at that facility and that will serve this community well past our lifetime.”

The Sioux Center Wastewater Department serves 2,536 customers, treating an average of 1.7 million gallons of wastewater daily.
