Only Minor Injuries In Boyden Accident Requiring One Driver to be Extricated

A Sheldon man had to be extricated from his vehicle after a crash in Boyden Thursday afternoon.


According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, the accident happened at the intersection of Highway 18 and Colfax Street at 4:33 p.m.


36-year-old Victor Casias, of Sheldon was driving west on highway 18 in a Ford Windstar. 52-year-old Michael Doorenbos, of Boyden, was driving a New Holland backhoe northbound on Colfax Street. Doorenbos stopped for the stop sign at Highway 18, entered the intersection and the two struck.


Casias was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated from the wreck by members of the Boyden Fire Department; he was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Doorenbos did not report any injuries.


Doorenbos was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Casias was cited for operating a motor vehicle without meeting insurance requirements and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license.
