Two Arrested Following Single Vehicle Accident

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident early Sunday morning on Fig Avenue, two miles northeast of Rock Valley.

 

20-year-old Abraham Vander Waal of Hull, was driving a pickup southbound on Fig Avenue when he lost control and entered the south ditch, and rolled.

 

When law enforcement initially arrived at the scene, 20-year-old Zachary Rus of Sioux Center, a passenger in Vander Waal’s vehicle, ran from the scene but was apprehended.  While investigating, deputies suspected Vander Waal was under the influence of alcohol.

Vander Waal was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle. Rus was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with interference with official acts, public intoxication and possession of alcohol under age 21.

 

No injuries were reported in the accident, however the pickup, a Dodge Ram, sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.

 

Vander Waal was released after posting a $1,000 bond, Rus was also released after posting a $300 bond.
