GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Northwestern College Baseball team was honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive season this week.

Coaches nominated their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters. To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:

Must be a high school or college team

Head coach must be a current ABCA member

Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2020-21 academic year

This year's honor roll recognized over 380 college baseball programs, including 27 NAIA programs. The Red Raiders were one of five Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) teams to be honored this season.

"Really proud of the guys and their commitment to excellence in the classroom," said head coach Brian Wede. "Speaks highly of who they are."

Per the ABCA, they are proud to recognize the over 580 member college and high school programs from across the country who have been awarded the 2020-21 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.

In the fifteen years under Wede's leadership the program has had two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 35 NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
