Pursuit Leads to Arrests in Plymouth County

Two people were arrested Sunday after a vehicle, then foot pursuit in Plymouth County.

 

The Plymouth Sheriff's Office says a deputy tried to stop a speeding vehicle traveling northbound near the intersection of K-22 and Lone Tree Road Sunday. Authorities say the vehicle was exceeding speeds of 100 mph.  The pursuit continued north on K-22 until it turned on Highway 3 heading towards Akron.

At the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 12 in Akron, the subjects lost control of the vehicle and struck the railroad tracks on the west side of the intersection, coming to a stop.

 

The driver, later identified as 52-year-old Shawn Denney of Sioux City, exited the vehicle and a short foot pursuit ensued. Denney was taken into custody a short time later.

 

The passenger, identified as 40-year-old Nelitta R. Taylor of Ireton, remained in the car and was detained.

Both Denney and Taylor were taken to a hospital in Hawarden.  After being treated, they were placed under arrest and transported to the Plymouth County Jail.

 

Denney faces multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated, eluding with injury, carrying a dangerous weapon – a knife with a blade exceeding 5 inches, and driving while barred.

 

He also had outstanding warrants in Woodbury County for possession of a methamphetamine and violating his pretrial release.

 

Taylor was charged with driving while barred, carrying a dangerous weapon – a knife with a blade exceeding 5 inches, which is a serious misdemeanor.  Taylor also had two outstanding warrants from Dakota County, Nebraska for criminal impersonation and failure to appear when on bail.
