Pair of Saturday Morning Accidents Results in Minor Injuries

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a pair of accidents Saturday morning.  The first accident happened in Boyden at the intersection of Highway 18 and Sheridan St. at 8:46 am. 


32-year-old Jane Kroese of Sioux Falls, was driving eastbound on Highway 18 in a Chevy Equinox; 22-year-old  Kadie Bauer of Paullina, was following Kroese on Highway 18 in a Chevy Malibu.  A vehicle ahead of them stopped to wait for oncoming traffic before turning left and Bauer struck Kroese.  No injuries were reported.


The Equinox sustained about $5,000 in damage. The Malibu sustained an about $6,000 in damage.




The second accident, at 9:37 Saturday morning, occurred at the intersection of Dogwood Avenue and 360th Street, six miles south of Rock Valley.


28-year-old Marcos Lopez of Hawarden, was driving a Chevy Malibu eastbound on 360th Street. 33-year-old Keith Byker of Sioux Center, was westbound on 360th Street.  Byker was driving a Chevy Silverado pickup pulling a Wilson cattle trailer when Lopez attempted to turn left and the two struck in the intersection.


Lopez was transported by private vehicle to the Hawarden Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Byker and two passengers reported minor injuries and declined further medical attention.


The Malibu sustained about $5,000 in damage, while the Silverado sustained an estimated $20,000 damage.


Lopez was cited for failure to yield upon left turn.
