Schoonhoven Sisters Both 1st team All-State

After leading the Knights to a state championship over the weekend, Unity Christian basketball sisters Janie & Gracie Schoonhoven have both been named Class 3A first team all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Janie, a senior and Unity's all-time leading scorer, averaged 16.4 points and 9.5 rebounds this season. Gracie, a sophomore, averaged 18.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6 assists and 4.5 steals for the Knights. They are joined on the first team by West Lyon junior Brooklyn Meyer. Meyer averaged 16 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.6 blocks in leading the Wildcats to a 3A runner-up finish. West Lyon head coach Ryan Brasser was named the 3A coach-of-the-year for the team's efforts. Cherokee's JaMae Nichols also garnered first team honors in Class 3A while Jayden Nitchels of Estherville-Lincoln Central made the second team.

A pair of Rock Valley players landed on the Class 2A second team. Abby Heemstra averaged 16.5 points and 9.6 boards this season while Lexie Van Kekerix totalled 16.4 points and 7 rebounds per game. The seniors led Rock Valley to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Central Lyon's Hayden Heimensen was named to the second team in Class 2A while MMCRU's Ellie Hilbrands is on the Class 1A third team.
