February 17, 2021 9:35am
Sioux Center Municipal Utilities have been notified by their power supplier and transmission operator that electric generation in the region may not be sufficient to meet the extreme and widespread demand for electricity at times in the next two days.
Due to this, there is the possibility of short-term outages in Sioux Center. Sioux Center Municipal Utilities does not know of any imminent outages, but they are a possibility. We want to ask everyone’s help to conserve electricity and recommend that residents be prepared for the possibility of a short-term electric outage.
A few ways people can conserve energy:
• Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
• Set thermostat to 68 degrees or lower
• Unplug non-essential appliances.
• Avoid using large appliances.
• Dress more warmly with loose-fitting layers.
• Keep your refrigerator closed as much as possible.
• Close rooms to avoid wasting heat.
• Close blinds or curtains to trap heat inside.
