UPDATED: Accident East of Alton Claims One Life

An accident three miles east of Alton on Highway 10 took the life one person late Thursday afternoon. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident that occurred at 4:51 pm.
18-year-old Josiah Gonzalez of Granville was driving westbound on Highway 10 when he lost control of the Chevrolet Malibu he was driving. Gonzales entered the eastbound lane where he struck an eastbound Ford F-150 driven by 45-year-old Barry Galles of Remsen.
Both drivers were transported to Orange City Area Health System where Gonzalez was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, Galles was treated for minor injuries and released.
The Malibu sustained about $5,000 in damage. The Ford sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department, Alton Fire Department, Alton Ambulance, Orange City Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.
