Sioux Center Teen Hospitalized After Accident

One person was hospitalized as a result of an accident at the intersection of Hickory and 410th Street, one mile east of Sioux Center Wednesday afternoon. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at about 3:40pm yesterday.
28-year-old Trevor Engeltjes of Everly, was driving northbound on Hickory in a Ford F-350 pulling a stock trailer. 17-year-old Pieter Westerbeek V, of Sioux Center, was westbound on 410th Street driving a Ford F-150. The two struck in the intersection.
The F-350 and trailer sustained about $25,000 in damage, and the F-150 sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage.
Westerbeek was transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of his injuries.
Engeltjes was cited for failure to yield to a vehicle on the right and operating a vehicle with expired registration.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Police Department.
