UPDATE: Semi vs Car Accident at Highways 75 & 10

One person has been hospitalized after a semi collided with a car at the intersection of Highways 75 and 10 Monday afternoon. 

 

According to the Sioux County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Josalyn Van Egdom-Briggs, from Hawarden, failed to yield at a stop sign when she was struck by a southbound semi driven by 60-year-old Larry Sorensen, of Hastings, Nebraska.

 

The Sioux County Sheriff's Office says 73-year-old Linda Van Egdom from Hawarden, a passenger with Van Egdom-Briggs, was flown from the scene to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls for treatment of serious injuries.

 

The semi sustained about $20,000 in damage.  The Van Egdom-Briggs’ vehicle sustained about $10,000 in damage.

 

Van Egdom-Briggs was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.

 

The sheriff's office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Rescue, Sioux Center Ambulance, Maurice Fire Department, Maurice Rescue, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
