The rough railroad crossing at 7th Street NW in Sioux Center is set for repairs this week, so the crossing will temporarily close to through traffic.

The City of Sioux Center earlier secured the agreement with BNSF Railway to repair the 7th Street NW railroad crossing, and they plan to replace the wooden crossing area on the east set of tracks starting Wednesday. The City will replace portions of roadway around the crossing with concrete to add to the improvements.

The crossing will be closed for the duration of the week to allow the concrete time to cure properly. During this time, traffic will have to detour until the crossing re-opens the following week.

Sioux Center Assistant Utilities Manager Adam Fedders says the repairs will cause an inconvenience, and asks for everyone’s patience and caution while the repairs are made.

City staff is working toward an additional agreement with BNSF to create a pedestrian crossing at the 7th Street railway crossing. The City also is working with the Iowa Department of Transportation and BNSF to secure funding for crossing improvements for 3rd Street, 4th Street, and 20th Street in Sioux Center.
