Northwestern College has been pegged to finish seventh in the 2020 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) preseason women's soccer poll announced today by the league office.

The Raiders accounted for 80 points in the August 27 coaches' poll, just five points in back of No.6 Concordia. Midland is the preseason favorite, totaling 142 points and 10 of the 13 possible first place votes. The Warriors won both the GPAC regular season and postseason titles in 2019. University of Jamestown is picked to finish second, followed by Hastings, Briar Cliff and Dordt.

Head Coach Ben Karnish is gearing up for his eighth season leading the Raiders women's soccer program. Karnish has the most wins (65) and the highest win percentage (52%) in program history and has led Raider teams to the postseason in six of his past seven seasons.

Northwestern tied Morningside for seventh place in the 2019 GPAC regular season with a 6-6 record, finishing with a 9-9-1 record. Karnish returns six starters, 13 letterwinners, from last year's team, including Julie Dunlap, who earned all-conference recognition.

The Raiders opened preseason practice on August 15 and hosts Missouri Baptist for its season opener on Sept. 5.
