The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau is investigating a hit-and-run boat collision Tuesday night on West Lake Okoboji.
Officials were called around 10:35 pm to the area of Manhattan Point, where they say a northbound boat hit another boat from behind. The operator of the boat that was hit, 52-year-old Vaughn Wickman of Spirit Lake was injured and taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.
DNR Conservation Officers and local law enforcement attempted to locate the boat that took off, along with utilizing the Dickinson County Thermal Imaging Drone, but were not successful in finding it.
Anyone with information into the incident or who may have witnessed it should contact DNR Conservation Officer Steve Reighard immediately at 712-260-1018. They say the boat that fled the scene would have recent front-end damage or scrape marks. No other descriptive information on the suspect boat was immediately available.
