No Injuries But Significant Damage in Sibley Fire
July 29, 2020 2:32pm
No injuries were reported in a fire Monday evening that caused an estimated $2 million to $3 million in damage to the Iowa Drying Plant in Sibley.
Fire departments from Sibley, Sheldon and Ashton battled the blaze that broke out around 8:00 pm.
Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls says smoke could be seen coming from the roof on the southeast side of the building when firefighters arrived.
Huls says the fire started when some excess material in machine used used to dry egg yolk ignited. He says some of the ignited material then got sucked into the ventilation system, which started the roof on fire.
It took about three hours to bring the fire under control.
