Two Highway 60 Accidents Investigated on Tuesday

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a pair of motor vehicle accidents Tuesday morning, both on Highway 60.  The first accident occurred Tuesday morning at 12:10.  47 year-old Rena Ferguson of Herndon, VA was driving north on highway 60 in a Toyota Corolla.   44 year-old Shannon Young of Eau Claire, WI, was in a Dodge Dart behind Ferguson.  As the two were travelling, Ferguson struck a toolbox containing tools that was on the roadway and Young struck the debris after Ferguson struck it.

No injuries were reported, however the Toyota sustained about $2,000 in damage while the Dodge sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage.  Young was cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.  The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office asks if anyone has information about the tools and the toolbox on the roadway, to contact them.

The second accident occurred at 11:28 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 60 and Jackson Avenue, four miles south of Orange City.  68 year-old Roy VanRoekel of Austin, AR was driving a Chevrolet Impala southbound on Jackson Avenue.  37 year-old Andrew Hardenburger of Lincoln, NE was northbound on Highway 60 in a Chrysler Pacifica.  VanRoekel entered the northbound lane of Highay 60 and the two struck.

No injuries were reported.  The Chevrolet sustained about $2,500 in damage, the Chrysler about $6,000 in damage.  VanRoekel was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign.
