Stormy Father's Day

Severe storms moved across the area Fathers Day, leaving a swath of damage from the lower Missouri River Valley through the Spirit Lake area. Storms caused flooding and downed tree limbs, blocking portions of highways 75 and 18 in Northwest Iowa, houses were damaged by tree limbs throughout the area, and although there was some hail, little hail damage has been reported. The storms were mainly wind producers with gusts of up to 60 to 65 mph from Hawarden through Sheldon and up to Spirit Lake.

The forecast is much quieter for today, with a less than 50% chance of more thunderstorms, none of which are expected to be severe. Thunderstorms return toward the end of the week as we warm into the 80s by Thursday.
