Resurfacing for the playground area is part of the overall improvements ongoing at Open Space Park.

A new bonded rubber mulch surface has been laid in the playground area at the multi-sport complex. This molded surface provides a safe place to play and adds accessibility to this area. It is also porous and allows water to quickly reach the ground underneath.

This is part of the bigger picture of what were doing here at Open Space Park and at all of our parks in Sioux Center, said Sioux Center Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren. A few years ago in our parks master planning, we heard great input on improving our parks, especially in accessibility. We continue to pursue ways to improve our great amenities in Sioux Center.

This summer, Open Space Park also saw the addition of a paved entrance that connects to sidewalks and added accessibility for those visiting the park and coming for baseball, football, and softball practices and games.

Improvements have also been made to the batting cages and the ball diamonds at Open Space Park, which have been recognized with national and state top honors. The park is also an STMA Certified Facility for Environmentally Responsible Management.
