Disc golf course redesign raises the fun factor
May 22, 2020 9:02am
A local disc golf course is undergoing a significant upgrade and expansion designed to add to the fun of enjoying the outdoors in Sioux Center.
The redesigned disc golf course at Childrens Park will feature nine tee offs with two different hole options for each tee, creating an 18-hole course. New holes, a new direction of play, new signs, and new challenges like raised tee boxes or baskets will add to the play for people of all ability levels. A welcome/information board with a full course map will be placed near the southwest corner of the parks parking lot near Hole 1 to guide people through the course.
A disc golf course is an amenity like the trails that is great for all ages, Sioux Center Parks Department Head Lee Van Meeteren said. We see young kids and older adults out playing. A disc golf course gets people to the parks and gives them another way to enjoy being outside.
Dordt University graduate student and assistant football coach Nathan Endemano is the designer behind the new course. He pursued the project as a practicum for his masters program. Endemano laid out the course, designed signs, created a course website, and planned for course safety.
I believe that a park and a course like this can add to the whole experience of Sioux Center, said Endemano, an avid disc golfer. My hope is that people from other counties and states take the opportunity to come to Sioux Center to play a round of disc, have a burger, and cool off after a day in the sun with a trip down the zipline into a cool refreshing pool.
Construction is beginning on the course, with the parks department anticipating completion in mid-June.
Weve been making some significant improvements to Childrens Park, and were excited about how this course fits into the park and offers another high-quality attraction to bring people to Sioux Center, Van Meeteren said. I always look for ways to work with people like Nathan, who can bring their passion and professionalism into what were doing for the community.
