GPAC Men’s Golf Fall Qualifier Day One Complete; Northwestern Leads

The first of two qualifying rounds (18 holes) for the 2018-19 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Championships are complete. The second 18 holes will be played on Tuesday (September 25) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The first two rounds each will be played at Willow Run Golf Course.

Northwestern is the defending GPAC champion after shooting a 1152 over 72 holes in 2017-18. Justin Kraft from Northwestern was the 2017-18 medalist with a 282 (-2) last year.

The Red Raiders continued their strong play from last year on the opening day of the qualifier shooting even par as a team (280). Midland was four shots back with a 284 while Morningside was 16 off the pace with a 296 in third.

Individually, five players are tied for the clubhouse lead with a 69 (-1). Three of the five are from Northwestern in Caleb Badura, Dana Van Ostrand and Austin Reitz. Joe Brinkman of Mount Marty and Cody Troudt of Midland round out the leaders.

The final 36 holes will be played this spring at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.  The dates are set for April 23-24, 2019.

The GPAC Men’s Golf Champion receives an automatic berth in the NAIA Men’s National Golf Championship in Mesa, Arizona, at the Las Sendas Golf Club.  The NAIA National Men’s Golf Championships are set for May 21-24.  The GPAC medalist (if not on the qualifying team) also qualifies for the NAIA Championships.
