I29 Sports Presents Showdown 200x200

Northwestern College and Dordt College have announced the beginning of the Sioux County Showdown Series for the 2018-19 school year.

The Sioux County Showdown Series is a point-based athletic and academic competition between the two long-time rivals.

As a sponsor of this series, I29 Sports has committed to several unique events over the course of the 2018/19 athletic season, including having special donation locations for each Dordt and Northwestern contest.

The goal of the Series is to generate as much excitement from fans at each contest, as well as alumni across Iowa and the nation, while also raising funds for a great cause, culminating in awarding the Sioux County Showdown Champions Trophy in May. We all have a goal to help raise more than $5000 in year one of the event for Hunger Free Kids of Sioux County.

To kick off the Sioux County Showdown, I29 Sports will be making an initial $500 donation in the name of the winner of the first event, the volleyball match on September 11. Every dollar donated will directly support Hunger Free Kids of Sioux County, an organization that seeks to provide local support to ensure all children in Sioux County receive adequate nutrition to thrive.

Points will be awarded based on a formula.

The competition includes all sports currently offered by both schools.

A traveling award will be presented to the winning school as soon as the final season competitions are completed in early May.

“It is exciting to enter a new academic year with the introduction of this new opportunity to support a very worthy cause,” said Northwestern College Athletic Director Earl Woudstra. “The Northwestern / Dordt rivalry generates a great deal of interest and this allows each of our athletic departments to be part of something bigger than just the contests – an opportunity to support Hunger Free Kids of Sioux County. We are grateful for the support of I29 Sports to provide these matching gifts.”

“I am thrilled we are able to partner with Northwestern and I29 Sports to make this happen. Through this partnership we will insure a very worthy cause, Hunger Free Kids of Sioux County, will benefit financially from this rivalry,” said Dordt College Athletic Director Ross Douma.

The competition includes all sports currently offered by both schools.

Up to four academic points can be received by each school, two from the previous spring and two for the fall semester, for varsity participants for each season.

A traveling award will be presented to the winning school as soon as the final season competitions are completed in early May.

The first tiebreaker will be the combined total points for football, volleyball and basketball. The second tiebreaker will be the winner in football.
