3 injured in head-on collision near Le Mars

THREE PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOPSITAL FOLLOWING A HEAD-ON COLLISION ON COUNTY ROAD C-38 IN PLYMOUTH COUNTY ABOUT 5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF LE MARS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT ABOUT 11:30pm. THE PLYMOUTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THAT A DEPUTY CAME UPON THE ACCIDENT SCENE WHILE RESPONDING TO ANOTHER CALL. APPARENTLY AN EASTBOUND S-U-V HAD CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND HIT AN ONCOMING CAR. THE CAR WAS IN THE TRAVELED PORTION OF THE ROADWAY WITH A MALE DRIVER INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS LOCATED IN THE NORTH DITCH ON FIRE WITH TWO PEOPLE INSIDE. DEPUTIES EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. ALL THREE PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO FLOYD VALLEY HOSPITAL AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO MERCY MEDICAL CENTER IN SIOUX CITY WITH LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. THE NAMES OF THE INJURED VICTIMS ARE BEING WITHHELD UNTIL FAMILY MEMBER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. THE PLYMOUTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WAS ASSISTED BY THE LE MARS AND REMSEN POLICE DEPARTMENT, LE MARS FIRE AND RESCUE, OYENS FIRE DEPARTMENT, REMSEN FIRE DEPARTMENT, LE MARS AMBULANCE, OYENS AMBULANCE, THE REMSENT AMBULANCE, AND THE IOWA STATE PATROL.
