Collision sends two people to hospital

THE O’BRIEN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS RELEASED DETAILS INTO A TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION SUNDAY EVENING THAT SENT TWO PEOPLE TO THE HOSPITAL. AUTHORITIES SAY 39-YEAR-OLD NIKKI ELGERSMA OF SANBORN WAS WESTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 18 WHEN HER VEHICLE CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND COLLIDED WITH AN EASTBOUND 2010 KENWORTH SEMI DRIVEN BY 54-YEAR-OLD TROY WILLIAMSON OF COAL VALLEY, ILLINOIS. THE IMPACT OF THE CRASH CAUSED ELGERSMA’S VEHICLE TO ROLL, COMING TO REST ON ITS TOP IN THE SOUTH DITCH.

ELGERSMA WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO BAUM HARMON HOSPITAL IN PRIMGHAR; WILLIAMSON WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO SPENCER HOSPITAL. ELGERSMA WAS CITED WITH FAILURE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL.

A 2006 CHEVROLET DRIVEN BY ELGERSMA WAS TOTALED; DAMAGE TO THE SEMI DRIVEN BY WILLIAMSON WAS ESTIMATED AT $20,000.
