Le Mars man arrestes in Merrill

A LE MARS MAN WAS CAPTURED AFTER ELUDING AUTHORITIES FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT THAT STARTED ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. AROUND 3:40 P.M. SATURDAY, LE MARS OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE AT A HOME. THE SUSPECT, 52 YEAR OLD RANDALL HURLBUT OF LE MARS, FLED THE SCENE RIGHT BEFORE THE OFFICERS ARRIVED. AFTER THE SUSPECT’S VEHICLE DESCRIPTION WAS RELEASED, IT WAS SEEN BY A MERRILL OFFICER WHO ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE SUSPECT DID NOT COMPLY AT FIRST, BUT EVENTUALLY STOPPED. THE OFFICER AND SUSPECT THEN GOT INTO AN ALTERCATION AND THE SUSPECT FLED ON FOOT INTO A CORNFIELD. OFFICERS FROM THE PLYMOUTH AND SIOUX COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, LE MARS, AND MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT, PLYMOUTH COUNTY CONSERVATION, THE IOWA STATE PATROL, AND IOWA STATE PATROL AIRCRAFT, CONDUCTED AN EXTENSIVE SEARCH OF THE CORN FIELD BUT THE SUSPECT WAS NOT LOCATED. OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS THE PLYMOUTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RECEIVED NUMEROUS TIPS FROM CITIZENS ABOUT SITINGS OF A SUBJECT WALKING IN THE AREA OF COUNTY ROAD K-42, AND 250th STREET, AND IN AND AROUND MERRILL. SHORTLY AFTER 5pm SUNDAY, DEPUTIES FROM BOTH THE PLYMOUTH AND SIOUX COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE LOCATED HURLBUT BEHIND BRANUM’S OIL IN MERRILL. HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT. HURLBUT WAS CHARGED WITH 2nd DEGREE ROBBERY, DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT, 3rd DEGREE THEFT, AND OBSTRUCTION OF EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS.
