July 16, 2019 7:59am

Northwestern College earned the No.14 spot in the College Football America (CFA) Yearbook preseason football poll released earlier today by Kendall Webb, publisher of the CFA Yearbook.

The Red Raiders are one of three GPAC teams in the preseason top 30, joining Morningside (#4) and Dordt (#25). Kansas Wesleyan, a national semifinalist from last season, holds the top spot, followed by national runner-up Benedictine (Kan.), Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Concordia (Mich.).

Northwestern returns 19 starters (9 offense, 6 defense, 4 special teams) from a 2018 team that finished 9-2 and ranked 12th in the final coaches' poll. The Red Raiders went 8-1 in GPAC play and hosted Dickinson State (N.D.) in a NAIA FCS first round match-up, the first home playoff game since 2006.

Matt McCarty returns for his fourth season as head coach and will open camp around August 12. The Red Raiders will open their 2019 season at home against Valley City State (N.D.) on Sept. 7.
