Gas Leak in Sioux Center Diverts Traffic
January 08, 2020 4:28pm
Traffic was diverted and disaster averted, thanks to a rapid response from emergency personnel in Sioux Center Wednesday afternoon.
Sioux Center Fire Chief Dave Van Holland says a crew was moving a house off of a lot on 4th Ave. NE, west across the street from Dordt University. Apparently the house was not lifted high enough as it began to move along the beam off of the foundation, it broke the gas line and valve, causing natural gas to spew into the air.
Van Holland says the call came in at 1:45, and shortly afterward, utility crews plugged the pipe. Van Holland says no water was used, no injuries occurred, and that they were on the scene less than 30 minutes.
