Iowa corn planting at 89%, soybeans 92% planted

Warm and drier weather allowed planting progress to advance across Iowa last week.

USDA’s latest weekly crop update says corn planting is nearly 90 percent complete, with 73 percent rated in good to excellent condition.

Soybeans are 92 percent planted, matching the usual pace.

Seventy-five percent of the crop has emerged, with 73 percent called good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa is 70 percent done, one week off last year’s pace.
